Detailed review of the iPhone 14 Pro

New design with Dynamic Island

For the first time in years, Apple has said "goodbye" to the notch on the front screen. You'll have more display space as the iPhone 14 Pro series has minimized the Face ID sensor and front camera to the smallest possible size, into a pill-like (or "i") shape. Apple calls this area Dynamic Island because it's really interesting. Thanks to the OLED screen, Apple has customized the "pill" area into shortcut icons and app notifications with smooth and seamless transition effects. You'll definitely feel the excitement of Dynamic Island when using the iPhone 14 Pro firsthand.

In terms of overall design, the iPhone 14 Pro and  iPhone 14 Pro Max  have a similar look to their predecessors, with a luxurious appearance made from a stainless steel frame combined with two reinforced ceramic-coated hard surfaces. However, due to the larger camera module, you will not be able to use the same cases as the  previous iPhone 13 Pro series  . Of course, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will have IP68 water and dust resistance.

Adding a super cool purple color option.

Apple offers four color options for the flagship iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Besides familiar colors like Space Black, Silver, and Gold, surprisingly, the main color for this year's iPhone 14 Pro line will be Deep Purple. For a product with such a sophisticated design as the iPhone 14 Pro, the purple color will look very beautiful, glossy, and luxurious.

Always On Display

The iPhone 14 Pro series boasts a top-tier display with a Super Retina XDR OLED panel, a pixel density of 460 ppi, and support for leading features such as HDR, True Tone, and Wide Color (P3). The iPhone 14 Pro has a 6.1-inch screen with a resolution of 2556 x 1179 pixels, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch screen with a resolution of 2796 x 1290 pixels. Contrast and brightness are also impressive, with a contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1 and a maximum brightness of up to 2000 nits in outdoor conditions. Furthermore, the screen supports a 120Hz refresh rate and ProMotion technology, which can change the refresh rate from 1-120Hz for smooth performance and battery saving.

A highly anticipated feature on the  iPhone screen  has appeared on the 14 Pro: the Always-On display. Unlike Android phones,  which  have predominantly black screens in Always-On mode, the iPhone screen retains the lock screen's colors and only dims. Apple says this feature won't drain the battery much. With Always-On, you can see the date, time, and notifications without having to turn on the screen.

Camera Pro 48MP

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max boast a significant camera upgrade, with the main camera boasting a 48MP resolution. This results in up to four times more detail in photos, allowing for cropping in ProRAW without compromising quality. The sensor size is also 65% larger than the iPhone 13 Pro, improving low-light photography capabilities. Under normal conditions, Apple combines four pixels into one, resulting in a final image with 12MP resolution but superior brightness and detail.

The telephoto camera has also been upgraded, boasting double the optical quality of its predecessor and offering sharp 2x and 3x zoom. The iPhone 14 Pro camera focuses primarily on low-light photography, with Apple stating that the Ultra Wide-angle camera performs three times better in low-light conditions, and the other two cameras perform twice as well as the iPhone 13 Pro.

The iPhone 14 Pro series continues to demonstrate professionalism in video recording with its ability to shoot cinematic 4K HDR video at 24fps or 30fps. Even more impressive is its motion capture capability, which rivals that of GoPro.

Regarding the TrueDepth front camera, you'll get autofocus and a larger aperture. Selfies will be sharper, more accurately focused, and perform twice as well in low light.

The power of the Apple A16 Bionic

While the iPhone 14 and  iPhone 14 Plus  didn't receive a CPU upgrade, the iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max didn't disappoint with its new Apple A16 Bionic processor. This CPU boasts 16 billion transistors, a faster 6-core CPU, is manufactured using a 4nm process, features a Neural Engine performing 17 trillion operations per second, a 5-core GPU with 50% more memory bandwidth, an upgraded ISP image sensor, and is highly power-efficient. Apple confidently states that the A16 Bionic is up to 40% more powerful than recently launched competitors.

All-day battery life

Despite incorporating many new features, the battery life of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max remains excellent. The iPhone 14 Pro can play videos for 23 hours, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max can last for 29 hours.

Apple has introduced significantly lower prices for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max than expected. The iPhone 14 Pro starts at just $999 (approximately 23.5 million VND) for the 128GB version; the 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB versions will cost $1099, $1299, and $1499 respectively. Meanwhile, the iPhone 14 Pro Max 128GB is priced at $1099 (approximately 25.9 million VND); the 256GB version at $1199; the 512GB version at $1399; and the 1TB version at $1599. Of course, these are only the US prices; the official prices in Vietnam will be updated by Bao Tin as soon as possible.
